Building Training Package
Client - Village Hall Committees
Areas - Rural Nottinghamshire & Rural Derbyshire

tanc has received an increasing number of enquiries from groups seeking advice on Community Building Projects. Working with Nottinghamshire Rural Community Council (NRCC) tanc has developed a training package aiming to provide a step by step guide to meeting even the most stringent requirements of funders of Capital projects. tanc's training covered all aspects of making an application to the Community Fund for a building project including; Needs Assessment, Option Appraisals, Setting the Brief and Final Details. The course was delivered to a group of 20 village hall representatives from rural Nottinghamshire and separately to 31 representatives from village halls in Derbyshire. The 2 free training events that have been held have been a resounding success. tanc intends to fundraise to cover the cost of this new initiative with the aim of offering regular free training events.

Regeneration and Community Involvement Training
Client: The Glasshouse
Area: National

tanc successfully tendered to deliver a national training programme for the Glasshouse. The Glasshouse is a new nation-wide design service being developed at the Architecture Foundation and National Tenants Resource Centre.

tanc worked up the training programme with the brilliant Space Project, a mother and son, artist and actor team. Using role-play, games, mock events and straight talk, the training enabled groups to:
  • Identify what regeneration meant to them
  • Share good practice in identifying local needs
  • Find creative ways to involve people in initiatives
  • Develop team and partnership working skills

Ravenscliffe Community Building
Client: Ravenscliffe Community Development Project
Area: Bradford

While delivering a training course for the Glasshouse Project last year we met this canny group from Bradford. The group wanted to develop a community building and were interested in "self-build" so we invited them to visit tanc at the Chase Neighbourhood Centre, one of the best examples of a self-build community project in the country. Over a packed day we arranged for the group to:
  • Find out more about self-build projects from Jo Brown from Nottingham Environmental Construction Training for All (NECTA)
  • Take part in tanc's step by step 'Community Building Project' training
  • Talk to the manager of the Chase Neighbourhood Centre about how to run a Community Building.

By the end of the year the group have decided to go down the ‘self-build’ route and have just appointed an architect to carry out a feasibility study for their Community Building.
