Ashwood Community Resource Centre, Nottinghamshire

Ashwood Church wanted to develop a variety of new and existing services in the community. In order to do this they wanted to transform a former factory into a vibrant community centre.

The Church approached tanc for advice on the purchase and refurbishment of the factory. We were able to offer the group a place on our 1 day Community Building training course to provide an overview for the future development of their project.

Inspiration After School Club, Nottingham

The charity Inspiration currently runs an After-School Club in New Basford. Their current site and premises restrict what activities they can offer due to poor access into the building, restricted space and poor state of repair within the building.

Inspiration approached to help develop their existing After-School Club and improve access to, and the condition of, their premises.

Play & Learn in Safety, Nottingham

The PALS Project is based in the Vine Centre and provides childcare and training. The PALS Project had been offered the lease of the building and approached tanc for advice on the options that were available for them to continue to develop their project. tanc support included undertaking an options appraisal to include:
  • needs assessment and space requirements
  • identifying additional costs of taking on the Vine Centre
  • listing alterations needed
  • identifying other suitable buildings in the area
The completed Options Appraisal has provided all the information the group needed to decide that they would stay at the Vine Centre and start fund raising to make the neccessary outcome of a bid to Surestart Hyson Green to cover the cost of building alterations.

On-going
Phase Ten Action Group, Nottingham

In 1999 Nottingham City Council announced a 5-year, £12 million, initiative to regenerate the St Ann's estate.

As an active member of the Neighbourhood Board tanc's main role has been to provide independent design advice to Board members and tenants and residents.

At the end of the second year of the five year programme 109 houses have been refurbished, 2 stages of redesign of the estate have been completed and the third stage is nearing completion. The design work for 2 further stages is complete and will start on site next year. In addition draft proposals are ready for the open space in the middle of the estate.

Consultation with residents to date suggests that improvements to individual houses have been well received by tenants and residents. Tenants satisfaction with the area has increased and housing turnover and fear of crime is reducing.
